what does that mean to you?
The quieting of thoughts & concerns, so you can get sleep at night?
The calm when you take space & big sounded breaths when you’re fuming mad?
Your heart beat, when you’re in a yoga pose or running on the treadmill or outdoors?
In Nature, when the sun reflects the tress in a way that lights up everything around it?
In the warm embrace of someone you love?
May it be Prayer, in your place of worship, in bed or where you choose?
No matter what it is for you, it’s your avenue of accessing it that’s important.
Seeking inner stillness, so you can hear your breath, feel the body’s pain/pleasure that communicates to you, so you may receive wisdom coming through for you.
We all have a unique imprint, soul, life purpose and way of playing it all out.
For many lifetimes, humans have battled with whose the best; whose way is the right way.
Is there a right way?
The way that is best for you, will come from within you. It will be inspired by witnessing others being in their own. It will always be your choice, your body’s knowing of what feels good and what doesn’t that guides you to YOUR way. As each of you discover inner stillness, you experience yourself in your own way. Then leading you to accept others in their own way too; breathing compassion into your way of being.
It’s a practice remember, I still catch my ego mind judging and I redirect it often.
My practice is to bring everything back to myself & use that place to create compassion for me & others.
It has it’s moments, but there’s a freedom in this inner space.
Inner stillness for me has come from many years of practice and continues still.
From a young age I was like a bouncing pogo stick, unwilling to bend or slow down.
I was eager to move, dance, sing, be wild and free; also bend and break rules.
I went through my times of feeling wrong, bad & different, I still can.
As I got older, I was a chatty monkey, impulsive & enjoyed instigating pokes to others & second guessed myself often. I got the old “She could show a lot more in school if she stopped talking so much” whose with me there? The monkey brain had a way of distracting me often, yet my spirit always had a way of imagining desires that helped me attract many good & helpful experiences.
I have an old best friend, who listens incredibly well. He was the first person to awaken me to experience the contrast between my racing mind & the possibility of stillness, listening.
So I thank him.
The following are 7 ways that inner stillness can grow & can become your own unique lessons in exploring the still space within:
BE WILLING TO LEARN & CHANGE: Old habits are set in tight, within your big old brain
& in the patterns of behaviour you are used to. When stress goes up, the big old brain kicks in fast with old ways. Just a willingness & curiosity can be a great way to begin to open up and explore avenues of practice that can lead you into stillness.
HAVE COURAGE TO FACE PAIN: Inside of each of you are small-large stress/traumatic events that shaped your habits, perceptions & energy flow. Avoiding it can be a way to deal for a while, until things get loud enough you can no longer ignore. Here you bring courage to take each moment at a time, to un cover your hurts & pains to create some new space within to build with.
TRY NEW THINGS: With online courses, local classes, activity centres, free webinars, healing spaces; many modalities to explore and try out. Trying new practices or perspectives can open up ideas & pathways that can lead you closer to what feels good for you. Practices are just that, they take time & commitment and you receive what you channel in.
ACCEPT WHERE YOU’RE AT: This culture has many pressures & comparisons that everyone can get caught up in sometimes, wether its family, friends, social media, school or work; you have permission to BE yourself no matter where you are in your life. It’s up to you to own where you are & find a practice of being that feels ok to you. Even when others want you to be something else for them.
CONNECT TO A SOURCE YOU CHOOSE: The study of the universe fascinates me, how vast & expansive it is. When you feel lost or loose control over the conditions, it’s a source of grounding or safety to connect to a higher power or source that you believe. For some, it may not be needed either and that’s ok too. It’s an exploring of what’s true within you.
HAVE FAITH THAT THIS WILL PASS: It can appear or feel like discomfort will never end. The growing pains will be forever, but it passes. With this faith you can look back and appreciate all you HAVE done, all you’ve taken yourself through so far. You can open up new dimensions of being, waking up to new challenges, that you move through towards clear desires. It’s the contrast that helps us get clear on what we DO want.
MAKE COMMITMENTS: It can be easy to coast on the waves of others expectations
or get scooped up in the rush of life. When you stop to decide what you want to invest your time in, make the commitments. Then do what you are able, to move with those decisions, this can build trust in your word & inner space. This could be yoga practice, meditation, sharing honestly with people you care about. It may be setting goals and saying no to others so you can achieve them. Dreaming big, deciding where you’re headed, so you can steer your life in the direction you choose.
No matter what, it’s up to you!
Some of these may ring true while others not as much.
You may put your hands in the air and say I don’t need any of these and that’s ok too.
The knowing of ourselves & making a pathway to our inner stillness is where we have access to unlimited support, power, will & creation.
Your life, your way at the end of the day.
Own it, take responsibility for it.
Care of it and make it what you want.
Share some love along the way.
